Cultural Forces open “Turning Point in the War” installation for Kyiv region’s liberation anniversary with BGV support
The BGV Group, particularly the BGV Charitable Foundation, helped bring the “Turning Point in the War” project to life. The installation, launched in partnership with Cultural Forces, commemorates the anniversary of the region’s liberation from Russian occupation.
The exhibition reflects on the early days of the full-scale invasion and marks the pivotal moment in the fight for the Kyiv region, particularly the battles for the Hostomel Airport.
At the heart of the installation is an authentic section of concrete from the Antonov airfield, split in half to symbolize the shattered ambitions of the Russian invaders. Rising through the broken concrete is a steel memorial pillar bearing the insignia of Ukrainian units that liberated the region. The final element — a beam of light emerging from beneath the shattered slab — represents both the resilience of Ukrainian soldiers and eternal honor for fallen heroes.
“This commemorative installation is not about the past. It’s about the moment when Ukraine changed the course of this war. We deliberately used a concrete section from the Hostomel Airport. This is not just a symbol in the figurative sense; it’s the actual site where the enemy’s plan to seize Kyiv in a matter of days was broken. Here, Ukrainian soldiers accomplished the impossible, halting and pushing back a force the world considered unbeatable. Every element of the installation tells this story. The red arrows aren’t a design flourish — they represent the real invasion plans. The break is their failure. The steel pillar with the insignia is a tribute to those who endured and liberated the Kyiv region. And the light is the force born even in the most critical moment — one that changes history. The mission of Cultural Forces extends beyond documenting events to exploring and conveying their deeper meanings. This object captures a turning point — military and mindset alike. It’s about losing fear and discovering belief. The heroism of Kyiv’s defenders isn’t just about protecting the capital; it’s the starting point of our strategic initiative, and proof that Ukraine can not only survive—but win,” said Mykola Sierha, head of Cultural Forces.
The installation was unveiled beneath Kyiv’s Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People, with military personnel, government officials, and project partners in attendance, including Kyiv Regional Military Administration head Ivan Dobrovolskyi, Deputy Commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces Colonel Yevhen Sasko, and Major Andrii Aparov from the military chaplaincy.
“It’s important for us to support projects that not only record historic events, but also help society reflect deeply on their significance. The defense of the Kyiv region was a key moment that determined the course of the war and reinforced our faith in the Ukrainians’ ability to resist aggression. Projects like this shape a culture of memory and gratitude to those who made this turning point possible — and help pass that experience to future generations,” said Viktor Ievdokymov, Managing Director of Education, Science, and Innovation at the BGV Group.
Throughout April, the public is invited to commemorate the liberation by placing the insignia of units that defended the Kyiv region on the “Turning Point in the War” installation, thus offering thanks to those who stood in defense.
