BGV Charity Fund and Ombudsman’s Office join forces to protect war-affected children

The BGV Charity Fund and Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets have signed a memorandum of cooperation to strengthen support for children affected by Russia’s full-scale war.

The agreement marks a new stage of cooperation with the Ombudsman’s Office. The partnership aims to unite efforts around initiatives that protect the rights of children impacted by the war while supporting their development and well-being.

The expanded partnership builds on the BGV Charity Fund’s long-standing work to advance social initiatives, strengthen ties with government institutions, and deliver projects that protect human rights and open new opportunities for children hit hardest by the war.

The memorandum was signed at the Human Rights Protection Center in Kyiv, a symbolic venue for the partnership. The center was recently established with support from several partners, including the BGV Charity Fund. The center is a modern hub where people can get legal assistance, consultations, and support in defending their rights.

The Ombudsman’s Office also presented a commemorative award to Gennadii Butkevych, founder of BGV Group Management and the BGV Charity Fund. It recognized shared values, a strong partnership, and a major contribution to human rights initiatives in Ukraine.

Supporting children remains one of the BGV Charity Fund’s core priorities.

Over the past four years, the foundation has carried out 42 charitable projects for children. These projects have supported newborns and families with children, equipped children’s hospitals, perinatal centers, and rehabilitation facilities with needed supplies, and helped expand preschool, school, inclusive, vocational, and higher education. They have also funded renovations of schools, shelters, and children’s spaces; supported youth sports, creativity, and talent development; organized summer camps, psychological support programs, and cultural exchange initiatives; delivered humanitarian aid and holiday gifts to vulnerable children; and backed other social programs focused on children’s development, safety, and well-being.

In all, the foundation has directed 492 million hryvnias to children’s programs and support for children and families affected by the war.

In 2023, the BGV Charity Fund also received a recognition from Ukraine’s human rights commissioner for its steady support of efforts to bring back Ukrainian children illegally taken to Russia and evacuate children from occupied territories.
