Zhytomyrvodokanal cuts electricity use by 64% following pumping station energy modernization
The engineering company Wassercraft Buro, 51% of which belongs to the BGV Group Management investment group, has successfully completed the first stage of a large-scale energy modernization project for three water pumping stations of the Zhytomyrvodokanal Communal Enterprise. Already in the first month of operation following the equipment upgrade, individual facilities reported substantial electricity savings, reaching up to 64%.
In December 2024, Wassercraft Buro entered into three energy service agreements with the Zhytomyrvodokanal Communal Enterprise to modernize the third-rise water pumping stations: “Vitruka,” “Kroshnia,” and “Pivnichno-Zakhidna.” These projects were carried out using energy service agreements (ESAs), a mechanism that allows payment for work to be made exclusively from the resulting electricity savings, eliminating any financial burden on the utility company. LLC Wassercraft Buro was selected as the project executor through an open tender conducted via the Prozorro public procurement platform.
Over five months, specialists from Wassercraft Buro completed a comprehensive reconstruction of three pumping stations, which included:
- replacing outdated pumps with energy-efficient Grundfos equipment,
- installing automated control and monitoring systems,
- equipping stations with modern metering devices such as electricity meters, pressure sensors, and flow meters,
- establishing a remote control and monitoring system for equipment operation.
The equipment selection was carried out based on hydraulic modeling of the water supply network, taking into account current and forecast consumption volumes.
For the first month of operation (June 2025), the confirmed electricity savings amounted to:
- at the Kroshnia water pumping station– 64%
- at the Vitruka water pumping station – 43%
- at the Pivnichno-Zahidna water pumping station – 23%
According to projections by the Wassercraft Buro team, the modernization is expected to save more than 4.25 million kWh of electricity over the eight-year duration of the contracts. The average savings rate is anticipated to range from 40% to 57%.
